Shot 1: Inbound Thought of the Week

Welcome to our HubSpot Gotchas show!

IMG 0878

Before we get onto some gotchas, let’s chat about the Inbound event, coming up in September.

201 days until Inbound: http://inboundcountdown.com/

Inbound Prediction: Chris Rock for INBOUND Rocks

The basic 2018 agenda is there!

Hi Justin

Plus, we just wanted to send a shout out to Justin Theng - great to catch up with you for lunch today!

Thanks Paul

And thanks to Paul - a loyal listener - to alerting us to problems with the HubShots Group on Facebook - we had missed updating the group. Doh!

HubSpot analytics: Visitors versus Sessions

https://blog.hubspot.com/customers/new-hubspot-traffic-analytics

https://knowledge.hubspot.com/articles/kcs_article/reports/whats-the-difference-between-visits-and-sessions

(Simple rule: sessions expire after 30 minutes of inactivity)

Note that HubSpot analytics reports are reporting Sessions instead of Visitors. This has been rolling out for a while, but has now been updated in the Marketing widgets on the dashboard.

These updates also flow through to 3rd party tools eg Databox

So if you’ve setup Databox reports, you may need to change the labels you’ve set in the dashboards.

We chatted about this in detail back in Episode 92: https://hubshots.com/episode-92/

Shot 2: HubSpot Marketing Feature of the Week

Customize Lead Flow Form Fields & Block Specific Email Domains

Persona field is a good example of one that you’d want to change the label on.

Shot 3: HubSpot Gotcha of the Week

Duplicate Contact fields names eg First name, Last name, Email

Often happens when you have Collected fields enabled - the collected form fields will include fields on the form (eg from another form tool) that match HubSpot existing fields.

contact properties

This can cause confusion for creating smart lists, triggering workflows, etc

select contact property

Which one should I use?

Workaround: create workflows that sync the two fields (create two workflows for each field, so that it syncs both ways to keep both fields in sync)

In a workflow you can hover over the fields to see which one is which - see the bottom hover URL details:

workflow hover

Check this carefully for the syncing workflow.

And then once synced you can use either of the contact fields in smart lists etc from now on.

Thanks to Casper from HubSpot support for helping me with this.

Shot 4: Marketing Tip of the Week

Handy tip for cleaning up lists of URLs

Use the Remove Duplicate Function in Excel.

Shot 5: Opinion of the Week

Research suggests car buyers will be increasingly willing to forego the money-saving ‘dealership haggle’ in return for the heightened convenience of buying online, says Holden.

What we want to highlight here is that people look for convenience over dollars.  More than ever consumers are looking for better and faster ways to transact.  This means that salespeople have a different role to play..if at all any in the process.  They are more likely to be brand ambassadors or enthusiast.  This is where I think Tesla has got it right.

“Modelling suggest that 30 percent of consumers are already willing to buy a car online – particularly among younger demographics – and that this proportion will only grow.”

“The research would say, people are prepared to pay a no-haggle price [in return] for convenience,” - Holden managing director and chairman Mark Bernhard

Shot 6: App of the Week

Apple Maps

But why you ask?  Well Ian has just started using Apple CarPlay and discovered a lot of businesses he tries to navigate to have no listing to be found or have an incorrect listing.  Making it hard to find them!

Tip: Check your Apple Maps listing is correct and has all the right information > https://mapsconnect.apple.com/. You will need an apple id.

Shot 7: Resource of the Week

Check out the latest HubSpot research on global content trends:

We’ll be chatting through some of these in coming weeks. Here’s a taste:

Shot 8: Quote of the Week

Worth a special trip

Now that more and more is ordered online, or experienced online, the only trips we take are special trips.

If your offering, your service or your place isn't worth a special trip, it's likely we won't be coming by any time soon.
